Information technology is a broad term and encompasses a wide range of work areas. Opportunities within the industry include positions for IT consultants, computer programmers, software engineers, hardware engineers, systems analysts, systems managers, web designers, network engineers and IT support staff.
A degree in computer science or information technology would be an advantage. However you may be surprised to learn that a computer-related degree is not always necessary for a job within IT. If you have a logical mind, a proven ability to solve problems, good analysis skills, attention to detail, well developed communication and interpersonal skills and can work well as part of a team, you may be considered, whatever your degree discipline as training can be offered.
Due to the scope of career options within I.T, your skills will vary, as different areas of I.T will demand different skills, as setting up network requires different skills to designing software for an accounting system.
